Austin

11.1.09

Shock horror, I slept in this morning! No rush to be evacuated from the dorm, and a dorm full of other people sleeping in as well. Headed into town to go to the LBJ Museum and the Capitol building, also have a drink along 6th Street and yeah. The LBJ Museum was quite good, a few floors with some interesting stuff, interesting perspectives. Lots of the perspective being Lady Bird's perspective. The UT grounds, although undergoing redevelopment were fairly nice and calming, somewhat reminiscent of Murdoch.  The Capitol building was large! I think it said it was 15ft higher than the Capitol in DC. Now I'm questioning that as I type this from my notes, so don't quote me on it, I'll have to check for sure. It was still large. Became alarmed when I walked into one room to find trials for someone to sing the national anthem at some event, oh my, that loud pitched squeal, painful upon painful!!! Quite liked downtown Austin area, very different to Dallas, but it was definitely possible to feel the vibe about the place that they like to say they have. Their town motto is "Keep Austin Weird"...

Returned to the hostel and what do you know, there was Nadia and Cecile from Dallas! Ok, I knew they were coming down today, but it sounds good to sound surprised! hehe. A few guys from England were up for a good board game, so we all had a lot of laughs through a few different games. All the games were missing parts so required a lot of improvisation of rules. Given my sleep in and very delayed start, it was a busy afternoon and evening. It doesn't sound like much, but I need to give you a reprieve from reading the novels I seem to be typing. I should run a word count on some of these entries I think!!
